  • Dr. Charles Browne

    Dr. Browne is Professor of Applied Linguistics & TESOL in the English Department of Meiji Gakuin University and was Director of their MA and PhD programs from 2022-2024. He is a specialist in Second Language Vocabulary Acquisition and Extensive Reading, especially as they apply to online learning environments, and has written dozens of articles, books, and EFL textbooks over his 30+ years in Japan. In addition to his work on the NGSL Project, he has also developed many free online ER/EL and vocabulary learning sites, tools and apps, working hard to share this knowledge through presentations, seminars and hand-on workshops around the world. A frequent keynote and plenary speaker at international conferences, he is happy to speak at your event as well!

    He is also Director of CBC Consulting, a consulting company with expertise in online language learning content and curriculum creation, app and platform development and the construction of online testing and assessment tools.

  • Dr. Brent Culligan

    Dr. Brent Culligan is an instructor at Aoyama Gakuin University and co-creator of the NGSL Project word lists. He developed the NGSL Placement Test, co-authored the In Focus textbook series, and has published research on word difficulty and vocabulary assessment. His NGSL puzzle workbooks are available through the Lingua Eruditio store.

  • Joseph Phillips

    With over 30 years of experience in teaching English as a second language, Joseph Phillips has brought a passion for education to prestigious institutions in Tokyo. Former professor and coordinator of the award-winning English Language program at Aoyama Gakuin Women's Junior College, Joseph continues this passion with the NGSL project. As a former lawyer, Joseph maintains an interest in copyright issues as they pertain to EFL materials development.
